What is a remote team sprint template?

A remote team sprint template is a project board designed for distributed teams running time-boxed sprints. It adds time zone context to every task assignment — so you know when the person you're assigning work to is actually available, without leaving your project tool.

Standard sprint templates focus on task structure. This one adds the scheduling layer that distributed teams constantly miss: who is online when, and when does the whole team overlap.

The distributed sprint problem

A 10-person team across Ukraine, Germany, and the United States has a 2-hour overlap window each day. During that window, blockers can be resolved, decisions get made, and async questions get answered quickly. Outside it, you wait.

Most teams learn this the hard way: a task gets blocked Monday afternoon in New York, the person who can unblock it is in Kyiv and won't be online until Tuesday morning. The sprint loses a day. Every remote team has a version of this story.

The Remote Team Sprint Template makes the overlap window visible from inside the project board — no separate scheduling tool, no mental math.

What the template includes

The sprint board comes with standard Kanban columns — Backlog, Sprint Active, In Review, Done — plus a time zone reference per assignee.

Each team member has a timezone field set in their employee profile. When you open a task and see the assignee, their current local time appears next to their name. You see immediately whether it's 3 PM for them or 11 PM.

The overlap window — the hours when the whole team is online simultaneously — is visible in the Remote Team Scheduler view. This is the window to protect for synchronous decisions.

Sprint workflow for distributed teams

**Sprint planning:** Run the planning call during the overlap window. Assign sprint tasks, confirm owners, set deadlines relative to the sprint start date.

**Daily standups:** Async-first. Each team member posts a brief update at the start of their day. The sprint board shows current task status without a meeting.

**Blockers:** When a task hits a blocker, check the assignee's local time before pinging. If they're outside working hours, log a comment and schedule follow-up for the overlap window.

**Sprint close:** Work Report shows hours per person per task. Compare estimated vs. actual effort. Use that data to calibrate the next sprint estimate.

Each team member can update their own timezone in their profile settings. There's no automatic detection — it's set manually.

The overlap calculation is based on timezone settings and standard working hours (9:00–18:00 in each zone). It updates when timezone settings change.

Yes. The columns and timezone context work for continuous kanban flow. Rename the "Sprint Active" column to "In Progress" and remove sprint-specific framing.
